LISTEN | Bebi Precious

Mama beat me again today because I burned food. “You’re the reason I’m suffering in this family.” She said as she spanked.

When papa returned from work, he beat me with a mop stick because I failed my math test.

Last week, Uncle touched me in places I didn’t like—my butt, between my legs, my small breasts. I told mama about it and she beat me.

I have complained to my pastor. “You dare question the plan of the Lord?” he queried. He seemed angry for the Lord. “The Lord gave you those parents to test your faith. You must honor your parents. Keep praying. “ He continued before going on to touch me too.

I am twelve.

Short. Apt. Few lines, plenty stories about how our supposed havens are the places where we die most. Well done.
